Dolly (Dorothy Evelyn née Whittall) married the speed champion Sir Malcolm Campbell in March 1920 as the second of his three wives. During a twenty -year marriage they had a son, another speed champion Donald Malcolm Campbell and a daughter. Recalling his impulsive temperament and his string of affairs, Dorothy Campbell thought him 'quite unfitted for the role of husband and family man'.
