Sir William Lee is shown as chief justice of the King's Bench, wearing a collar of SS over justice's scarlet robes. The original by John Vanderbank was engraved in 1738. This 19th-century copy formed part of the collection of legal portraits at Serjeants' Inn and was given to the Gallery when the Inn was disbanded in 1877. More detailed information on this portrait is available in a National Portrait Gallery collection catalogue, John Kerslake's Early Georgian Portraits (1977, out of print).
