Composed light operas and incidental music for plays and arranged operas by well-known composers. He is best remembered today for his song 'Home, Sweet Home'. Between 1810 and 1830, Bishop composed, arranged and conducted dramatic musical productions at Covent Garden Theatre, King's Theatre, Haymarket, Drury Lane and Vauxhall Gardens. He wrote one opera with sung dialogue, Aladdin (1826) as well as oratorios, part-songs, and glees.
