Born in Dublin, Joyce is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential twentieth-century authors. His most significant works are Dubliners (1914), Ulysses (published in Paris in 1922, but banned in the UK until 1936), in which he employed the experimental 'stream of consciousness' technique among other literary styles, and Finnegans Wake (1939).
