George Onslow entered Parliament as an MP in 1754 where he became an enthusiastic supporter of Pitt and Temple in opposition. In 1765, he was appointed Lord of the Treasury on the formation of Lord Rockingham's first administration, and he was admitted to the Privy Council two years later.
