Archbishop of Canterbury. Born in Scotland Lang entered the Church of England in 1890 as curate in a Leeds Parish church. He became the Dean of Divinity at Magdalen College, Oxford, Bishop of Stepney (1901-8) and Canon of St Paul's. In 1908 he was appointed Archbishop of York, a significant promotion which acknowledged Lang's status as a rising star, and in 1928 became Archbishop of Canterbury.
