Campbell, or the Marquess of Lorne, was an MP from 1868 until 1878, where he worked as private secretary to his father, the Secretary of State for India. In 1870, he was one of five British aristocrats who were invited to Balmoral, where the Queen was seeking a British husband for her fourth daughter, Princess Louise.
