This is one of a pair or portraits painted in 1726-7 by Jonathan Richardson, showing the Earl and Countess of Winchilsea in coronation robes. The countess is wearing a robe of red wool and ermine pinned at the shoulders with silver brooches, and she holds a coronet in her lap.
