'Nancy' Storace was a soprano singer and actress whose parents took her to Italy to launch her career at the age of thirteen. She then spent four years in Vienna (1783-7) where she sang Susannna in the triumphant first performance of Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro (1786). Returning to England in 1787, Storace first performed Italian opera at the King's Theatre. She joined Drury Lane as its most highly paid singer in 1789 and specialised in comic roles.
