Cornish historian, poet and biographer. The author of a number of works on the Tudors including Tudor Cornwall (1941), The England of Elizabeth (1950), The Expansion of Elizabethan England (1955) and The Elizabethan Renaissance (1971). He became widely known in the 1960s for his thesis on the identity of Shakespeare's Dark Lady.
