Born in Wandsworth, the daughter of Charles and Lucy Hancox (née Udall), Daisy Hancox was educated at the Grey Coats School in London, where she showed a keen interest in sports. However, after leaving Grey Coats she would join Richard Daly's theatre as a chorus girl, and whilst touring would come to the attention of C.B Cochran, who cast her in a number of his London revues.
