This portrait by Eckstein was painted following Smith's return from the Mediterranean and shows him brandishing a scimitar at the Siege of Acre, with Djezzar Pasha and another Turk beside him. He wears captain's undress uniform, Hessian boots and the Star of the Swedish Order of the Sword which was awarded to him in 1792. He has one pistol on his right hip and another thrust into his sash.
