Edinburgh-born journalist, broadcaster, author and campaigner, Kennedy began his broadcasting career as a television newsreader for ITV from 1956. His many political and current affairs credits on television include BBC's flagship news programme Panorama (1960-63). In 1958 Kennedy contested the Rochdale by-election as a Liberal candidate. A veteran campaigner against miscarriages of justice, his books include 10 Rillington Place (1961), which questioned the death penalty, and the Amazing Case of Patrick Meehan (1975). Kennedy was a co-founder of the Voluntary Euthanasia Society.
