Psychologist and anthropologist; taught psychology at Cambridge before being appointed Director of the newly established psychology laboratory there (1907). Rivers performed some of the first experiments in cross-cultural psychology during the 1898 Torres Straits expedition, but is best known for his work at Craiglockhart and other hospitals treating victims of shell shock during the First World War.
