Computer engineer and educator. Read Mathematics at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, and after graduation in 1942 first met Sir Frederick Williams in the context of wartime radar development at Malvern before going on to build the world`s first operational stored-program computer in 1948, helping to perfect the storage device (the world`s first random electronic random access memory.)
