Geoffrey Palmer worked in an imports office and then as an accountant before he was persuaded to join the local amateur dramatics society. Eventually he became a popular star of sitcoms such as The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, Butterflies and As Time Goes By (1992-2005).
