Poet and novelist. At Cambridge, Davies co-edited the student literary periodical Experiment (1928-31) with William Empson and was a member of the Apostles. He became a university lecturer and Fellow of St. John's College. Tuberculosis prevented him from fighting in the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War. Davies helped mount the London International Surrealist Exhibition in 1936. His poems were published in avant-garde magazines and his novels include Full Fathom Five (1956).
