Critical appreciation for Dobson's work had reached its height in the late 1920s. In 1927, the influential critic Clive Bell described Dobson as 'not only...our
best sculptor, but promises to become the best we have produced for centuries.' In this photograph, Dobson is shown working on the plaster for his bronze sculpture 'Truth', which was purchased by public subscription and originally erected outside the Tate Gallery.
