Like Shannon and Ricketts, the poet and playwright Gordon Bottomley devoted his life to art. He was a social recluse but became an increasingly important friend during Ricketts's last years. In 1929, Shannon fell while hanging a picture and suffered brain damage from which he never recovered. Added to this personal tragedy, Ricketts was saddened by a sense of professional failure and neglect. Bottomley commissioned Ricketts's last work, the book design and illustration for Unrecorded Histories (1933).
Card size: 125mm x 175mm
