Born in Amsterdam to Portuguese Jewish parents. He studied at the University of Leiden, graduated as a medical doctor in 1818 and set up as a physician in Amsterdam. During his time at university, Capadose was affected by the conservative speaker Willem Bilderdijk and converted to Christianity and was baptised in 1822. Capadose belonged to the circle of the Dutch Revival movement, which resisted the revolutionary, liberal and democratic ideas of their time; democracy was, to Capadose, an act of resistance against the Creator.
