Iron manufacturer and philanthropist. Reynolds was a partner of Abraham Darby in his Coalbrookdale ironworks. He married Darby's daughter and assumed control of the works on his death. Reynolds produced cylinders for most of the early steam-engines and ordered the first rotative engine made by Watt and Boulton. A Quaker by birth, he gave very large sums to charity.
