Writer. Dyer was born in Gloucestershire, and educated at the University of Oxford. He has written novels, literary criticism and non-fiction, and is a regular contributor of articles to newspapers and magazines. His first non-fiction work, Ways of Telling: The Work of John Berger was published in 1986. But Beautiful (1991), Dyer's book about jazz music, won the Somerset Maugham Award in 1992, and Out of Sheer Rage: In the Shadow of D. H.
