Born in Swansea, Thomas wrote for the South Wales Evening Post before moving to London. His poetry was admired by T.S. Eliot, Edith Sitwell and Stephen Spender. The collection Eighteen Poems (1934) established him in literary circles. Much of his writing evoked his life in Wales, including Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog (1940). Further stories and poems were published as Twenty-Five Poems (1936), The Map of Love (1939) and Deaths and Entrances (1946), including his best-known poem Fern Hill.... more
