This bronze head was made in 1972, the year that Wade won the Australian Open Singles Titles and five years before she became Wimbledon Champion in 1977. The artist and sitter first met in 1971 and Wynne made a full-length sculpture of Wade playing tennis before sculpting this head. Greatly attached to the work, Wynne kept it in his possession until his death in 2014.
