Dodgson's diary describes a visit on 11 July 1871: 'St Michael's is a very pretty place. We arrived in time for the evening service, which is choral. There are about twenty-five boys; meals in hall, with a high table for masters'. In 1858 Ouseley became (with Gladstone, Ruskin, and others) one of the first Honorary Students of Christ Church, Oxford.
