Born in London and began her career in the chorus at the Aldwych Theatre under Seymour Hicks, playing there Supper Belle in Blue Bell (1905). Appeared at the Gaiety Theatre in The Girls of Gottenburg, Havana and Our Miss Gibbs and in 1913 played Sombra in The Arcadians at l'Olympia, Paris.
