by Elliott & Fry
This group of photographs show Linnell aged seventy-four, a highly successful and well-established artist. By the time these pictures were taken, Linnell had stopped painting portraits and was concentrating on landscapes, often depicting the countryside around his house at Redhill, Surrey. Linnell was excited by photography and the use he could make of it in his paintings. In a letter of 1863, he requested to be sent photographs of 'cows, horses, sheep and dogs to refer to for details'.
Card size: 125mm x 175mm
Images are printed in their original proportions, within a white border.
