Fashion designer Muir is famed for the classic cut and simplicity of her garments. She taught herself to sew at boarding school, and later took a job in the stockroom of Liberty's department store in London. She worked for Jaeger during the 1950s, forming her own company Jane & Jane in 1967. In 1966 with her husband Harry Leuckert Muir formed Jean Muir Limited.
