Polish pianist and composer, politician and spokesman for Polish independence. Born to Polish parents in the village of Kurilivka, his father Jan Paderewski was an administrator of large estates. He was raised by distant relatives after his mother died before he reached the age of one. Later he lived with his father again and his father remarried. Interested in music from an early age, he began piano lessons at the age of 12, later graduating from Warsaw Conservatory in (1878) and becoming a piano tutor.... more
