Goodman wrote about fashion photography in 1934: 'Photography as a medium of showing clothes is fast catching up with fashion drawing, and this despite the fact that […] In a drawing the artist can eliminate or modify lines that are not pleasing or create a figure to suit them: but in a photograph one must accept those lines and make them pleasing.' He also likened a good fashion photographer to a dressmaker: 'they need a dressmaker's qualities to understand the dress.'
