Eldest son of Maharaja Duleep Singh and Maharani Bamba. Studied at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge. Due to laws at the time, children of Indian descent were disqualified by parentage from the army however his Godmother, Queen Victoria, granted special dispensation for her godson to join the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst (1887).
