Poet, editor, journalist and author of biographies, topographical works, political novels, histories and much writing in the Roman Catholic cause. Born in France, Belloc became a naturalized British citizen in 1902 and was Liberal MP for South Salford (1906-10). Among his best-loved poems are those in the Bad Child's Book of Beasts (1898) and Cautionary Tales (1907).
