Freelance journalist and writer, Holmes served on the Committee of the Society for Women Journalists and established the Margate Pioneer Society 'to further the interests of women' amongst other initiatives. After moving to Croydon in 1907, she became president of the local Women's Social and Political Union, declaring that 'The women of this country are in the position of political starvation'.
