This self-portrait, painted when he was 22, was Weight's first oil painting. It was acquired 'because he was considered an important portrait painter'. In fact portraits are quite rare in his work, though a number, such as Orovida Pissarro (Ashmolean Museum, Oxford and Tate Britain) are in public collections.
