Regular price £35.00

This cushion features the portrait of Anne Boleyn by Unknown English artist, late 16th century.

Super soft faux suede, complete with zip along one side and removable cushion pad for easy care.

The second wife of Henry VIII, Anne was associated with the King from 1527 and secretly married him in 1533, shortly before Henry's divorce from Katherine of Aragon was completed. Later in the same year their daughter Princess Elizabeth (later Elizabeth I) was born. By 1536 Henry had grown tired of Anne, and, still desperate for a male heir began to doubt the legitimacy of their marriage. That same year Anne was charged with adultery and incest and was executed at the Tower of London.

More about this portrait: oil on panel, late 16th century, based on a work of circa 1533-1536.

This painting is probably based on a contemporary portrait which no longer survives. Boleyn was described as having a long neck, wide mouth and with 'eyes which were black and beautiful'.
